DOCS / MCP

Bring Gather
to your agent.

Ask Gather with a work-email sign-in, or connect the report MCP with a sign-in or an API key. Both work with compatible MCP clients.

Two connections. Two ways to work.

Ask Gather. Sign in with your work email.

For conversational research, use https://share.gatherhq.com/api/mcp. Sign in with your work email and the 6-digit code Gather sends you. No workspace yet? Create one for your company as you sign in.

gather_ask scopes studies and launches them after your approval, pulls findings and quotes, chats with personas, and drafts content. The same connector runs research reports.

Download the setup instructions or open Gather’s connection guide.

Configure the connection.

Add the server URL in Claude or ChatGPT connector settings. Using Cursor or VS Code? Add to Cursor ↗ Add to VS Code ↗

Discover the tool schema from the authenticated server. Ask Gather to scope your brand, audience, and decision, then show you the plan before launching a study. Your organization may need an admin to approve connectors.

Run a research report. Sign in or use a key.

For custom agents and workflows, connect to https://synthetic.gatherhq.com/api/v1/mcp using Streamable HTTP. Sign in with your work email, or authenticate with the same key used for the report API.

Prefer a header when your client supports it. For clients that accept only a URL, use:

URL-only clients
https://synthetic.gatherhq.com/api/v1/mcp?gatherApiKey=<key>

Treat the complete keyed URL as a secret. Do not put it in shared setup files or public repositories. Query-string keys are supported on this MCP connection, not on REST report endpoints.

The start tool accepts company, question, website, audience, audience_type, key_questions, and respondents. See the request fields and limits.

A report researches the company, designs the interview guide, and runs 30 simulated interviews, configurable from 10 to 50, with your audience on Gather’s research platform in your own workspace. It returns a branded report link plus findings, themes, and quotes.

Give the report time to finish.

Keep the returned report ID. Call gather_report_check every 30 to 60 seconds until completed or failed. Reports take about 16 minutes, or about 10 with 10 interviews. Each key allows 3 reports running at once, plus its daily limit.

A completed response includes:

  • report_url: the branded report link.
  • output: headline, summary, answer, key_findings, options, priorities, points, next_steps, themes, quotes, unknowns, and validation_test.
  • study.app_url: the study in your Gather workspace.
  • methodology: how to interpret the report.
  • confidence: "directional".

Results are simulated and directional. They are not a survey of real people.
